3 Causes Of Female Infertility

 3 Causes Of Female Infertility

You’ve decided to have a baby!  Congratulations!  You start trying to conceive and had a little fun, but after several months without success you may be wondering “what causes female infertility”?

How Long Does It Take To Get Pregnant?

First of all, don’t panic.  It’s totally normal for it to take couples 6 months to a year to conceive.  If you are approaching that time frame it may be a good idea to schedule an appointment with a fertility specialist in Fairfax, VA

Risk Factors: What Causes Of Female Infertility?

  1. Age – Women’s fertility decreases with age.  As you approach your mid-30’s, your egg count and quality will decline.  If you are over 35 and have been TTC (trying to conceive) for 6 months, schedule an appointment with your doctor.
  2. Tobacco and Alcohol Use – Smoking tobacco and consuming alcohol may contribute to fertility issues.  It’s best to abstain while you’re trying to conceive.  This goes for dad too as consumption has been shown to decrease sperm count.
  3. Weight – Being overweight or underweight can have an impact on your fertility.  You can improve your chances of conceiving by enjoying moderate activity like a daily walk and eating a balanced diet.

What Is The Treatment For Infertility?

If you find yourself being one of the 10-15% of couples who have not been able to conceive naturally within a year, there are options available to help you!

Your doctor will want to run some tests and evaluate you and your partner to identify any medical causes for your infertility.  After that, you can explore options like fertility drugs to stimulate hormones, Intrauterine insemination (IUI), or in vitro fertilization.

Fair Oaks Women’s Center has a proven track record of helping couples to reach their conception goals and grow their families.  Contact us to schedule an appointment with Dr. Singh to start discussing your fertility treatment plan!
